About two years ago, I made the decision to stop shooting portraits. I was newly pregnant with Micah, and while I had considered the idea several months before that, my new pregnancy really made things clear: Something had to give. And so I decided to say no to anything but wedding photography. It was so black and white. And that actually made it easier for me.
Around that time (when I was saying no like it was my job!) Annabel Wrigley approached me about a photo shoot at her sewing studio. She wrote me such a sweet email, and I really had to consider it. She was a mom and a business owner and an artist, and I loved that we were balancing a lot of the same things. So I agreed to do it!
Looking back, I’m so glad that I did. Not only did I photograph her GORGEOUS (former) studio space at The Little Pincushion Studio, but that shoot was also published in Studios Magazine. And shortly after, Annabel asked if I could join her on an even more exciting project…. HER VERY OWN BOOK! I can’t tell you how shocked I was when she asked me to photograph her book. I had never done anything like that before, and I had no clue what it would entail. I was also REALLY pregnant and just winding down for maternity leave. So we chatted… and dreamed. In the end, I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity! We started shooting her book about a year ago after Micah hit the six-month mark and before wedding season really picked up for me. It was such a fun project!
And so… the book (We Love to Sew) is finally here! My copy arrived last night, and I couldn’t wait to open it up and flip through each and every page. I had seen Annabel’s copy, but I hadn’t had the time to really sit down with it until last night. It made me so proud. Annabel styled the entire book, and I loved capturing her vision. It also made me laugh because I probably wouldn’t be able to sew anything if my life depended on it. But if YOU wanted to sew it, I would be happy to photograph the step-by-step process!
If you have young girls in your life who are crafty and love to sew, this book is so much fun! You can order it here, but if you live in Warrenton make sure to stop by Annabel’s new studio space to purchase yours… she will sell you a signed copy!
We just finished our last shoot for Book #2…. Look for that one to arrive sometime early next year!!!
